Global Citizen Forum Brings Their Mission to NYC For UNGA Week

The Global Citizen Forum hosts an intimate gathering ‘MigrationX’ for the global citizen community at the Aman Hotel

Every September, New York City hosts the United Nations General Assembly — one of the world’s most prominent events, gathering global leaders, government bodies, philanthropists, activists, and celebrities to discuss the planet’s most pressing issues. This year, the UNGA opened its 77th session under the theme, ‘A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges’, bringing the message of interconnectedness to the forefront of the global conversation.

As drivers of the dialogue on human connection and global citizenship, the Global Citizen Forum played an active role throughout the weeklong events in the city, participating in panels and gatherings that featured key speakers including, the First lady of the United States, Jill Biden, Former Prime Minister of the UK, Tony Blair, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. Denis Mukwege, amongst many others.

“With a staggering 100 million+ forcibly displaced people worldwide, a global coordinated response from the United Nations is not only necessary — it is critical,” shared Talimka Yordanova, CEO, Global Citizen Forum. “Bringing the mission to New York hails a call to action to ignite the dialogue on the refugee crisis.”

On September 22nd, the Global Citizen Forum also hosted MigrationX, an intimate gathering at the Aman Hotel in New York City with an exclusive guest list which included government leaders, refugee activists, and key personalities from across 30 different cities worldwide.

“It is incredible to host such a diverse and passionate group of individuals that are actively driving the mission forward and using our platform to connect on such important issues,” shared Yordanova.

Guests included model and philanthropist Petra Nemcova and Flaviana Matata, Grammy-Award winning artist Wyclef Jean, and former FBI hostage negotiator and Masterclass coach, Chris Voss. Additionally, a host of government leaders including the Prime Ministers of Antigua and Barbuda, Solomon Islands, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines were in attendance.

“This is the era of global citizens, united to create a stronger, sustainable, and interconnected world,” said Founder of GCF, Armand Arton during his speech at the event. “The time has come to not only think of what you can do for migration — but more importantly, what migration can do for you."
