CHAOS IS THE SACRED ENERGY OF NEW BEGINNINGS

Day two of the Global Citizen Forum’s Annual Summit in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, built upon day one’s sentiment of collective progression, and celebrated the marvel of human perseverance. When discussing the varying challenges that individuals and communities across the globe face, the ethos of resilience echoed across the Summit.

As the sun rose over the horizon, renowned spiritual ambassador and Hollywood’s beloved yoga teacher, Eddie Stern, helped set the intention for the day with a yoga session centered on cultivating a sense of self, while awakening an appreciation of human connection and our shared humanity

Global Citizen Forum’s CEO, Talimka Yordanova, later opened day two by throwing her script to the side and addressing delegates with an authentic and emotional address that was straight from the heart. She reflected on the common theme from day one and reminded attendees that we are stronger together with the late Kofi Annan’s wise words: “if you want to walk fast, walk alone. But if you want to walk far, walk together.”

Talimka went on to earmark chaos as “the sacred energy of new beginnings,” recalling a personal story of being confronted with the resilience and perseverance of strangers, concluding with a momentous call to further spur attendees into action: “quantum leaps start with a small flap of the wings, and we have very powerful wings in this room.”

The day's conversations centered around cultivating resilience within oneself as a path to social transformation in pursuit of a more prosperous future for all.

Vishen Lakhiani, Founder of MindValley, the world’s biggest platform for personal growth, led an interactive session to aid in evoking emotional resilience with a min-masterclass of his signature six-step protocol, which: “helps you hack the game of life by upleveling key qualities such as compassion, gratitude and forgiveness which foster a feeling of social connection.”

Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, Saint Lucia, spoke of how individual international actions can have global effects, praising his nation for its unwavering resilience in the face of challenges: “We don't have to teach our people to smile, or to be warm, and no international system will break that.”

In a session titled ‘The Backbone of Humanity’, Élisabeth Moreno, Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, Diversity, and Equal Opportunities, Government of France (2020-2022) highlighted that Global citizenship is an opportunity to create a more inclusive and equitable world: “theirs is a huge glass ceiling If you manage to break it, then help others to do the same.” She likened chaos to “a global pandemic” in that when faced together, it's easier to overcome and called for unity and equality: “my fight is a fight for human dignity, whoever this person wants to be, who am I to decide who you are who you want to be?”

Chris Voss got the audience on their feet in a demonstration of the power of emotional intelligence-based tactical empathy. Drawing a parallel between unified success and human connection. To achieve this, his interactive session focused on utilizing FBI negotiation techniques to “cultivate empathy and a positive mindset.”

Other sessions throughout the day included a second session with Eddie Stern who led a guided breathwork exercise; as well as discussions with Maximilion Cooper, Founder, Gumball 3000; Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele; and Senior Advisor and Representative to the GCC Countries, UNHCR, Khaled Khalifa.

As the sun set on the Arabian Gulf, Harley K. Dubois, Co-Founder and Chief Culture Officer, Burning Man spoke to the transition ‘From Human to Community’, inviting participants to set their intentions alight – literally – by writing them down and throwing them into a communal fire in the shadow of an iconic Burning Man Inner Child statue.

Ahead of the Annual Summit’s fundraising Gala, Ricky Martin, Philanthropist, Artist, Author, and Founder of Ricky Martin Foundation, aptly encapsulated the day’s proceedings, declaring: “to achieve peace, we must first transform ourselves and experience our own metamorphosis… To do so, we need to quiet our minds and let our hearts speak. Together we can transform the world.”

Transitioning into the evening festivities, Vishen Lakhiani took to the stage once more in a display of the importance of being ones most authentic self, whilst also contributing to a sense of community. Echoing the sentiment of Queen’s famous ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, in which Freddie highlights how much happier he might have been had he just been able to be himself. Vishen encouraged the crowd to relinquish themselves of barriers and encouraged self-expression through an energetic dance session.

The agenda concluded ahead of a glamorous Gala, which is set to see dignitaries and celebrities unite for an evening of fundraising and a celebration of community.
